In the 21st century, it’s quite hard to surprise the public: there are so many things that have already been done and presented, not to mention the number of new artists and new designs that flood the artistic landscape. We are sure though that this sculptures collection will be sure to garner your interest. In the static pose, it just looks like some boring geometrical figures, but it's when you begin to rotate them that the magic happens.

Stealing Nature’s Ideas
Sculptures that “move” are really just an optical illusion but can truly be enhanced when the designer has a sound knowledge of geometry. However, John Edmark didn’t create it himself, but rather took it from nature, exploring such phenomena as Chroma taxis. The good examples of objects with the same geometry include sunflowers, artichokes, and pine cones. Before his latest art collection, titled Blooms 2, he used to animate the same effect, using an artichoke or cactus attached to a turntable and appropriately filmed. So, inspired by the environment, he created his own sculptures with a unique design and 3D printed them. It's interesting to note that all Blooms are monolith - they don’t have any moving parts or inside mechanisms. The secret lies in the “golden angle” - 137.5º around the core and diagonally between the two “leaves.” To demonstrate the optical illusion, the sculptures should be placed on a turntable and under a strobe light.

Do you want one?
Famous pieces of art are usually believed to be unrepeatable. Unlike traditional art, it’s very easy to recreate 3D printed sculptures just by printing them once again. John Edmark sells his Bloom collection online, and you get to choose the size and material that you would like. The cheapest sculpture starts at $28 (without shipping), with the most expensive – more than $5000.
